About the McIntosh MHP1000

McIntosh's debut headphones

As a fan of smooth, powerful sound, I can't dream up a much sweeter way to spend leisure time than listening to a full McIntosh sound system. But as a parent, I only catch a break during nap time — not the ideal time to pump Hendrix through the house. The McIntosh MHP1000 headphones let you enjoy the company's legendary performance, even when you can't crank the stereo. Or whenever you just feel like decompressing with a really nice set of over-ears.

McIntosh designed and tuned the MHP1000 headphones to emulate the sound of their loudspeakers. They also made sure these luxury 'phones excel when connected to the outputs found on all McIntosh legacy gear. They pair up particularly well with the MHA150 headphone amp, and even the earcups themselves resemble the famous McIntosh dials.

Special driver design for clarity and spaciousness

To get the clean, detailed sound they were looking for, McIntosh started with Tesla technology, a super-strong magnet design developed by high-end headphone maker Beyerdynamic. McIntosh combines Tesla magnet technology with their own six-layer voice coil and 40mm diaphragm to create a driver that can start and stop with nimble efficiency.

The drivers are housed in an extra-large chamber and slightly angled, so sound waves hit your ear at just the right direction. This creates a soundstage that feels bigger than the headphones themselves. And the closed-back earcups keep external noise from seeping in while adding impact to the bass frequencies.

Fine materials for comfort and stability

McIntosh expects you'll like the sound so much, you'll want to wear them a while. That's why they've lined the oversized earcups and padded headband with invitingly soft leather. The MHP1000 'phones have a sturdy, yet relaxed fit that doesn't apply extra pressure in any one area.

Solid aluminum display stand and custom-designed cables

When you're not wearing the MHP1000s, you'll probably want to show these well-built headphones off. They arrive immaculately packaged along with a striking-looking aluminum stand you can use to display them. Below the stand, you'll find a drawer filled with two different-sized headphone cables. They both feature the McIntosh logo engraved on the gold-plated connectors. The shorter cable connects to a minijack, while the longer cable plugs into a full-size 1/4" headphone jack.

A world-famous audio heritage, made in America

Since its founding in 1949, McIntosh has defined the meaning of high-quality sound reproduction, while setting industry standards for superior performance and reliability. The company is based in Binghamton, New York, where its high-end components and speakers are still individually handcrafted by a team of skilled experts. This uncompromising dedication to quality has made McIntosh one of the most recognized and respected audio manufacturers in the world.
